Q Jacobs, founder of Blooming Lotus Productions, is a playwright, writer, director, producer, and actress. She first appeared in Billy Crystal’s industrial film,
Finding Our Families and Finding Ourselves – Maya Angelou’s story with clips showcasing her appearing on The Oprah Winfrey Show, and the movie Coach Carter. Her productions include the stage play, It Affects One It Affects All, the documentary AIDS Awareness and the upcoming film, The Come Up Girl.
Q’s hard work has garnered her an array of distinguished mentors. As the protégé of Oscar nominated writer, producer and director, John Singleton (Boyz n the Hood, Snowfall), Q has been submerged in every facet of filmmaking from, writing, directing, acting, and producing. She attended the prestigious Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute, and was trained by the highly respected acting coach Michelle Danner – past coach to James Franco, Gabrielle Union, and Oscar winners Penelope Cruz and Common. She also honed in on her writing skills with extension writing courses at UCLA and became proficient in stage directing by shadowing Zadia Ife, a skilled stage director and manager for Tyler Perry and David E. Talbert.
Q combined her education and experience and put it to test in her first original play, It Affects One It Affects All, executive produced by John Singleton and written, directed, produced and starring Q. After selling out the Edgemar Center For The Arts in Santa Monica, CA, she knew she was ready to take the lead. Encouraged by Halle Berry’s advice to produce her own projects, Q founded Blooming Lotus Productions. The Come Up Girl is about a young woman robbed of her child hood by her mentally ill mother who leverages her assets to seduce wealthy men in order to provide for her family . The play was scheduled to open April 2020 and go on tour. Due to Covid-19 it is now being transitioned into film.
Q’s productions explore morality, pop culture and women’s issues because she feels strongly that there are many lasting effects associated to every societal shift. She is equally passionate about her community off the stage. In 2015 she founded The Hollywood Come Up Bootcamp for at risk youth and The Healing Brunch teaching women techniques for dealing with mental health issues.
